Webinar on “Right to Privacy” – Judgement of Honourable SC on Aadhaar Card
Mar 28, 2018
Mr. Pritam Ghosh, Senior Professor, Karnataka State Law University, delivered a webinar on Right to Privacy. The point of discussion was judgment of Supreme Court on Adhaar card. Covering this topic is carrying contextual relevancy owing to its subtle relation with the various subjects namely Constitutional Law, Family Law and Administrative Law.
Mr. Ghosh specifically pointed out that the verdict is being seen as a major setback for the government, which had earlier argued in the apex court that the Constitution does not guarantee individual privacy as an inalienable Fundamental Right. "The Right to Privacy is protected as an intrinsic part of the Right to Life and Personal Liberty under Article 21 and as a part of the freedoms guaranteed by Part III of the Constitution".
The entire enlightening lecture was followed by an interactive session in which students raised concern on different issues like how far the judgment carries relevancy in today’s scenario; in what manner and in which direction this judgment gives a message of social transformation ; whether India should adopt the model of USA this and so on.
