A Webinar on “Sustainable Development & Sustainability” was organized today for the Second semester students of B.Sc, BCA and B.Tech Programs. Dr. Nidhi Rai – Professor, Dept. of Environmental Studies, Mohan Lal Sukhadia University – Udaipur (MLSU) was the key resource person.
In the webinar, Dr. Nidhi explained about the concept of sustainable development (SD) and sustainability. Highlighting the issues related to environmental degradation particularly Global Warming, Loss of Biodiversity, Depletion of Natural Resources, emphasis was laid on the conservation of natural resources and switching to alternate energy resources viz. Solar, Hydel, Tidal, Geothermal, Biomass energy resources. She began with how and where the concept to SD came into existence. She also explained about the Rio-Summit and other conventions held at international level to find out the solution for conservation of environmental degradation. She explained about the four 3 important pillars of S that are Economic, Social & Environmental. She explained about issues related to SD & different levels at which SD can be practices. She also explained 17 important principles of sustainable development that includes from food security to biodiversity conservation, from girl child education to alternate energy resources, etc. Finally she concluded with the methods of sustainable development and waste management.
It was informative and covered the aspects of environmental degradation and ways for its conservation. The students were benefited from the seminar.
